COPS Fitness: Our big new program for 2011!
We are very excited to be promoting a new program that we hope will help fight childhood obesity and help improve kid's test scores...for FREE!!!
Our years of working with children and developing exercise programs for kids have taught us many valuable lessons...the most important of which is that KIDS want to have FUN, and they like to Move!!
Our unique COPS Fitness Program is a solutiun that proactive parents, teachers and coaches are going to LOVE! COPS FItness stands for Childhood Obesity Prevention Squad Fitness...and what COPS represents is a community effort to get kids up and moving, developing balance, strength, endurance and flexibility...in as little as 5 minutes a day IN THE CLASSROOM! That's right, this is designed to be done in the classroom.
No special equipment. No competition. No long drawn out workouts. Minimal Space. Maximum benefits.
The great thing about this technique is you do not have to be an exercise expert or high level athelte to administer the program.. What we have done is develop a simple 5 exercise sequence that the students can do, at their desks or lined up, that allow them to act out certain exercises in a fun way, encouraging them to work together, and the benefit for the kids is imrpoved strength and neuromuscular development, improved balance and flexibility, and improved focus.
The benefit to the teacher or parent? The children expend a high level of energy, helping to stimulate blood flow to the brain, the digestive system, and also the limbs. this can help to stabilize blood sugar, which can lead to improved test scores, improved lesson retention, lower distraction, and better concentration...along with burning a few calories and revving up their brains for a potential surge in creativity! And we all know what happens when kids pay attention and learn more...less stress for the adults, and better test scores!!
How does COPS Fitness work? Once every two weeks, a new combination of exercises will be put together in a simple video that can done in 5 minutes (or, if it is more convenient, there will be downloadable posters for the classroom that fully describe each exercise). If the class and teacher enjoy the process, the sequence can be repeated for an increased benefit. This program is not designed to work a child to momentary muscle failure, and it is not designed to see who is the best or least athletic. It is designed to be done EVERY DAY (not every other day like our more-specific training programs require, due to near momentary muscular failure and increased recovery time required).
The best part about this: Our goal is to make the program available for FREE to schools that are willing to put the program in place.
Think about that...an increase in exercise components for the childs day (we ALWAYS recommend both structured and unstructured activity for children 8-10 yrs old) without the school currciculum having to be changed (a process that can take months, hundreds to thousands of dollars, along with other complications...) just by having a student get up and move around enthusiastically for 5-10 minutes...the teachers get more student involvement (we have seen the best time to benefit from this being after lunch/mid afternoon), the students get to shake up their normal routine, they learn functional movements that do not require a high degree of neural efficiency to master, and the teacher may even get to send the kids home with better grades.
WIN-WIN!
This program is going to be possible because of the hard work and dedication of Houston Fitness Consutlants, along with the wonderful grant contribution from the Brooksie Way Mini Grant Foundation...and we hope to have it available for you soon!!
